Style War: He for She (Chanel style)

Controversia es algo que nunca puede faltar en un Fashion Week y esta vez llega por cortesía de mi estimado Karl.

Hemos tenido un paraíso de hielo, un carrusel gigante, una visión del océano, un lujoso comedor y hasta un supermercado. No me imagino ni un solo show de Chanel que no sea completamente extravagante y, cuando ya pensaste que todo había sido mostrado...bam!, viene Karl Lagerfeld y nos da algo totalmente distinto para ocupar nuestra mente.

Muchos deben haber escuchado sobre la campaña lanzada por las Naciones Unidas acerca de la igualdad de género, He for She. Si aún no saben de qué se trata, abajo les dejo el discurso de Emma Watson, embajadora de la UN, sobre la campaña. En verdad dio un speech súper interesante que les recomiendo que vean. En fin, el asunto es que a Karl le pareció tan genial la idea de todo esto del He for She que decidió mandar a sus modelos en una marcha feminista de protesta sobre la pasarela, liderada, dicho sea de paso, por la musa de Chanel, Cara Delevingne.

¿Qué cosas locas pasarán por la mente del señor Lagerfeld? ¿Una marcha por los derechos femeninos? ¿Es en serio? No me tomen a mal. Me encantó la propuesta. Más allá del tweed, los trajes oversized, el vibrante blocking colour y los estampados plaid, el cierre del desfile con la marcha me pareció increíble. Siempre lo he dicho, Karl es un genio. ¿Qué mejor manera de hacer énfasis sobre una campaña que dándole un lado más comercial? Muchos creerán que esta vez la maison Chanel se pasó y la protesta fue algo absurdo y sin sentido pero yo creo que esto significa el inicio de una época en la que no importa de donde vengas o cuáles sean tus gustos, todas las mujeres buscamos un mismo objetivo: el ser aceptadas y respetadas como se debe. Gracias Karl por decir lo que muchos no se atreven a demostrar.

Controversy is something that has to be seen every Fashion Week and this time we have plenty of it courtesy of our dear Karl.

We've had an ice paradise, a giant carousel, a beautiful ocean, a luxurious dinning room and even a supermarket. I can't imagine the day when a Chanel show is not going to be extravagant, but, when you thought you've seen everything...bam!, there comes Karl Lagerfeld and gives us something completely different.

Most of you must've heard about the UN campaign about gender equality, He for She. If you haven't, at the end of this post you can find the speech that Emma Watson, UN Ambassador, gave. It's a really interesting speech and I suggest everyone to see it. Anyway, it seems that Karl thought that the whole idea of the He for She campaign was so incredible that he decided to put together a feminist march of protest with the Chanel models at the end of the runway show.

What's going on inside Mr. Lagerfeld's mind? A march on behalf of women rights? Seriously? Don't get me wrong. I loved the idea. Appart from the tweed, the oversized suits, the blocking colour and the plaid patterns, the march at the show finale was incredible. I've always said that Karl is a genious. The best way to introduce a campaign inside the market is turning it into a more commercial situation. Some might say, this time, the maison Chanel took the whole thing to a different level and the protest was something meaningless and absurd but I think that this is the beginning of a new era where it doesn't matter where you belong to or what are your preferences, every women is looking for the same thing: being accepted and respected as we should be. Thanks Karl for saying something most people wouldn't have the courage to say.
